I could have actually titled this section "racing at work," because that is how busy it has been in the pediatrics office lately. We are on major flu chaos mode. It was all fine until we received our first shipment of H1N1 vaccine. This now doubles the time/explanations/paperwork of flu shots. And, of course, as is the case everywhere-we only were sent a limited amount. So, within days, most of the vaccine was gone and some of our flu clinics had to be cancelled. As you can guess, this creates some unhappy parents. I get it, but it is not our fault!! We are doing the best we can with what we have. Oh, and let's not forget the media hype on the whole flu thing. This leads us to panicked parents calling with every fever, cough or congestion. It has just been long couple of weeks, and it is only October. Our flu season doesn't usually peak until late winter. Oh boy!
Now onto some happier times in my week. This weekend was the regional district meet. It determines who runs at the final 4A race next weekend for state qualifications. It was nice weather (thank goodness---we had some dumping rain showers this week). The pictures are taken at the finish line. If my kids read this, they will likely be mad at me for posting them. Neither of them were happy with their times. But, I look at these times in awe. This is a 5K (3.1 mile) race. I can only dream of running this fast. They each finished in the top seven of their team, which means they are racing next weekend too.
